Exercise

Siberian Huskies are high-energy dogs that require at least 1-2 hours of exercise daily. This should include a combination of walks, runs, hiking, or active play sessions. A well-exercised Husky is a happy and well-behaved Husky. Without adequate exercise, they may become destructive or develop behavioral issues.

Grooming

Yes, Huskies are known for their significant shedding. They have a thick double coat that sheds moderately year-round and heavily twice a year during seasonal 'coat blows' in spring and fall. During heavy shedding periods, daily brushing is necessary. Regular grooming helps manage the shedding and keeps their coat healthy.

Regular brushing 2-3 times per week is recommended for Huskies, with daily brushing during heavy shedding seasons. Baths are only needed every few months or when dirty, as Huskies are naturally clean dogs. Regular nail trims, ear cleaning, and dental care should also be part of your grooming routine.

Temperament

Siberian Huskies are generally excellent with children! They're known for their gentle, friendly nature and patience. However, as with any breed, supervision is important, especially with young children. Our puppies are raised around children and are well-socialized before going to their new homes.

Huskies aren't typically excessive barkers, but they are known for being vocal in other ways! They're famous for their distinctive howls, 'talking,' and various vocalizations. This is part of their charm but something to consider if you have close neighbors or noise restrictions.

Yes! Siberian Huskies are pack dogs by nature and generally get along well with other dogs. They often enjoy having a canine companion. However, due to their prey drive, they may not be suitable for homes with small animals like cats, rabbits, or birds unless raised together from a young age.

Living Situation

While it's possible for a Husky to live in an apartment, it requires significant commitment to exercise and mental stimulation. Huskies do best with access to a securely fenced yard. If you live in an apartment, you'll need to provide multiple daily exercise sessions and engaging activities to keep your Husky happy and prevent destructive behavior.

Huskies can adapt to warmer climates, but precautions are necessary. Their double coat actually helps regulate body temperature in both hot and cold weather. In warm climates, ensure they have access to air conditioning, shade, and fresh water. Avoid exercising during the hottest parts of the day. Never shave a Husky's coat.

Huskies are known escape artists! They can jump over, dig under, or find weaknesses in fencing. A secure fence of at least 6 feet is recommended, preferably with dig guards or an inward-angled top. Huskies have a strong prey drive and wanderlust, so off-leash time should only occur in securely enclosed areas.

Training

Huskies are intelligent but also independent and can be stubborn. They respond best to positive reinforcement training methods with consistency and patience. Early puppy training classes are highly recommended. While they may not be as eager to please as some breeds, they can learn commands well with the right approach.

Health

Siberian Huskies are generally healthy, but like all breeds, they can be prone to certain conditions including hip dysplasia, eye problems (cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy), and hypothyroidism. This is why we health test all our breeding dogs and offer a 2-year health guarantee on our puppies.

We recommend high-quality large-breed puppy food for the first 12-18 months. Look for foods with real meat as the first ingredient and appropriate calcium/phosphorus ratios for proper bone development. We'll send your puppy home with a sample of their current food and detailed feeding recommendations.

Siberian Huskies have a lifespan of 12-15 years on average, which is excellent for a medium-sized breed. With proper care, regular veterinary checkups, good nutrition, and adequate exercise, many Huskies live happy, healthy lives well into their senior years.

Our 2-year health guarantee covers genetic and hereditary conditions. If a covered condition is diagnosed, we offer either a replacement puppy or partial refund at our discretion. Please have your puppy examined by a veterinarian within 72 hours of arrival to maintain guarantee validity.

Puppies traveling longer distances may leave slightly later.
